How to Have More Energy in the Morning
One of my biggest challenges used to be keeping myself away from bed, after I woke up. In fact, even if I got out of bed, I could fall asleep somewhere else in the house, especially if I wasn’t in a hurry.
Today I know that besides getting enough (high quality) sleep, there are simple things that you can do to boost your energy level after you wake up…
How to Raise Your Energy Level Quickly (Right After You Wake Up)
You can reach that feeling of “awake and energetic” much quicker than you might think. It’s pretty simple, actually. It comes down to three main things – movement, nutrition and light:
Movement
You should have a wake-up routine that you do automatically, without thinking.
Don’t look at yourself in the mirror and feel sorry for yourself for looking so tired. It’s only normal to look (and feel) sleepy when you wake up. Dismiss these thoughts and focus on your routine.
The most important thing is to keep yourself in motion, or at least, on your feet, until you are fully awake. Don’t sit down to have a cup of coffee until you are sure you won’t doze off!
A morning exercise is a very healthy habit. The least you can do is take a short walk and do some stretching. You know…Spin your arms, bend over and try to reach your toes, move your head gently to the sides, and bring your ears to the shoulders, and so on. Try it!
TIP: This one comes from my wife. When she wakes up feeling very “heavy” and numb, she massages her face. Press and do circular movements on your eyes, eyebrows, cheeks, forehead and temples.
Light
It may sound obvious to you, but I know at least one person (me) who used to make the mistake of sitting in the dark…
Try to expose your eyes to sunlight as soon as possible, or at least turn on some bright lights. (There is actually a scientific explanation to it, but I won’t bore you with it.)
Nutrition
Have at least two cups (1/2 litter) of water, before you eat or drink anything else.
Many nutritionists even recommend having TWO LITTERS of water every morning. I tried it for a while and found it too difficult and time consuming, but maybe you’d like to try it yourself.
Next – you guessed it – have some breakfast! I’m not saying you should have a three course meal, but at least have a bowl of serials or some fruit, before that cup of coffee.
Final thought – a quick COLD shower is one of the quickest ways to refresh yourself. If it’s winter, at least end the shower with as cold water as possible. (By the way, a cold ending to a hot shower is also good for your skin).
NOTE: There’s a whole chapter dedicated to waking up in the End Tiredness Program – a digital book that I recommend to anyone who’s serious about raising their energy level.
