During the day our energy level has ups and downs. It’s especially in the afternoon hours that we tend to get into an energy ‘slump’….

On those times most people tend to grab a cup of coffee, a so called energy drink, a chocolate bar or another unhealthy, caffeine/ sugar/ fat/ salt rich snack or beverage.

This is obviously an unhealthy habit. Not only most of these ‘snacks’ promote dehydration, in the best case they will give you a quick and short boost, followed by another, greater slump…

Do yourself a big favor and instead – reach for healthy, nutritious foods (high in fiber, iron and vitamins) that will satisfy your stomach, as well as give you the boost your need.

A few nutrient-rich energizing foods are:

  • Any fresh fruit, especially with skins or seeds like peaches, apples, pears, oranges, and strawberries.
  • Peanut butter on some whole grain cracker.
  • Dried fruit, like apricots, almonds and raisins.
  • Baby carrots.
  • Sesame sticks.

If you prefer to drink- instead of coffee or ‘soft drink’, a couple of glasses of real, squeezed fruit or vegetable juice will do a much better job.
