Jamie, it sounds like you're not working right now. It also sounds like when you wake up you don't do much. You're bored and inactive, no wonder you feel sleepy. Of course, at night you're not tired enough at a reasonable time and so the cycle continues...

I suggest that you read:

I seem to be stuck in a cycle of going to sleep around 2am, waking up around 8am with my bf who get's up for work, staying up for about an hour and then, without fail, falling asleep on the couch for up to 5 more hours. Sometimes when I wake up it is very difficult and I have to force myself to get up, feeling dizzy and dissoriented. Occasionally I am able to stay up the entire day if there are things I need to get done, but on a normal day I just can't seem to wake up fully until 1 or 2 pm. Durring the summer I did not have this problem, and was working full days outside. Now I notice that I do not eat very much and have low energy all day, but still am not able to go to bed at a reasonable hour and become very restless durring the night. Could this have to do with lack of sunlight durring the winter? Or something more serious?

Harmony, my guess is that you started oversleeping at a bad time in your life, then the oversleeping made things worse and an ongoing cycle of depression - low self esteem - oversleeping - failure had begun.

I suggest that you get rid of the "looser " attitude. Put the past behind you and detach the oversleeping from anything else. Treat it as a bad habit that you can beat in a matter of weeks at most.

A few questions that came to my mind and that may help you focus on finding a solution:

What did the doctors say? Do you have any medical probelm?
Do you go to sleep early enough? Could you go to sleep earlier?
Is there an alarm clock that does wake you up? Have you tried placing it away from bed? Have you tried wake up calls?

Actually, if I may mention something to add to the last comments. More often than not, something in me has prevented me from even hearing the alarm clock. I have tried many different types of alarms. In fact, I even slept through a fire alarm once!! This is why, the fear is so strong in me for failure, especially when presented with a wonderful opportunity for a new job. It has been ruining my life. I've had so many regrets, when I think of the many times my own kids were late for school, and have been scolded from their teachers, because of me. It doesn't make for a positive self-image at all. As a parent, that is the worst feeling in the world. I've been to doctors, and have never been able to resolve this problem.
